Decisions we make Part 3

We have seen how Abraham unknowingly brought a blessing into Levi's life, when he gave tithes to Melchizedek, King of Salem and priest of the Most High God. I believe God guided his heart to give that tithe because Abraham is meeting this man for the first time in his life. I praise God that Abraham, with all his weaknesses was always in touch with God, therefore God calls him His friend

"...and he was called the Friend of God." James 2:23c

Sometimes, we get cocky with God and think all our decisions are guided by Him because He speaks to me and answers me when I call upon Him. King Hezekiah was one such a person. In 2Kings 20, we see that he was sick and nearing death. The prophet Isaiah walks in and gives him the news that his time is up so better get your earthly affairs ready, because it's time to go. Hearing the news Hezekiah breaks down, turns to the wall and cries out to God. God hears his prayers and sends Isaiah back with the news that Hezekiah's life is being extended by 15 years. On hearing God' decree, Hezekiah was ecstatic, but wanting a confirmation of God' word he asks for a sign. Believe it or not God turned back time by about 40 mins according to the sign asked by Hezekiah. Yes! God turned back time. Anyway a few days later an envoy from Babylon reached King Hezekiah with a letter from King Berodachbaladan, who was concerned for Hezekiah's health.
King Hezekiah was so happy that he was healed and had his life extended by 15yrs that he forgot all about God. He proceeds to show the Babylonian envoy all kingdom and his assets. Pride got the best of him at this point of time. As the envoy left, the prophet Isaiah confronts Hezekiah and tells him that a day will come when these same people will come a destroy his kingdom and steal all his assets and make his children eunuchs in the Babylonian court. Hezekiah's reply was something I found totally unbelievable.

"Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?" 2Kings 20:19

He was least bothered about what was spoken by the prophet. All he wanted was peace in his time. Are we concerned for only our well-being? What about those around us? What about our children? Do we really care? How selfish am I? We need to ask ourselves this. This prophecy uttered by the prophet was fulfilled to the letter 70 years later.
Let's not make light our our decisions today for they have far reaching consequences. We cannot always think that God agrees with all that I decide. It's time to reconsider the way we decide. The future of our children depends upon it. Let's seek the Lord before it's too late.
